There was me thinking that my limited appeal was strictly to the locals who don’t know any better. But, no, it was a pleasure and privilege to get a car-buying question from one of our European cousins. In this case, it was Melicia, who lives in Rome. Helpfully, she outlined how she uses her current car. She said that for 99% of the time, for city trips of less than half an hour, there are only one or two people in the car. However, two or three times a year, they go from Rome mob-handed, with four or five people and their luggage, to another city two or three hours away. Then they go mad and take a one-off road trip to a city about eight hours away. At this point, it’s probably timely to mourn the passing of Melicia’s worn-out Honda Civic. The thing is, Rome is going the way of all
There are several reasons to avoid buying used cars but most people’s ideal used car would typically be within ten years old. Consumers consider it safe to trust a used car that is within ten years old—but which of the cars from the early 2010s should be avoided? The lousiest cars from the early 2010s include big-name vehicles that have had an off year, with the addition of models that have been tainted since their production. Discontinued vehicles consistently appear on this list, a fact which justifies their cessation. Repair Pal reports numerous issues with vehicles to help gauge the number of problems associated with each vehicle. Another of the most popular rating system for cars is done by websites such as Motor Trend, Kelley Blue Book, and Edmunds, who judge the overall ineffe
Everybody loves cars. Some people prefer the newest releases, others want the old-school models. The truth about cars is that they all come in their own shapes and sizes. Colors and horsepower as well. You can’t really say that a certain vehicle is the “best” one because they’re all so different, it’s a matter of taste. For many people, buying cars associates them only with one thing. Buying it from a car saloon. However, that’s not the only way to get yourself a ride, and it’s definitely not the cheapest and most efficient one as well. That’s when buying used vehicle comes in very handy, and we’ve prepared an entire article about it, just for you.Why should I consider buying a used car? Like we just mentioned, buying a used vehicle is more cost efficient and sometimes you can end up
If a Mazda MX-5 Mk1 or Mk2 is too Japanese and a Lotus Elise Mk1 out of reach, then get your mitts on a Midget. The two-seat MG roadster ran from 1961 to 1979 and for years has been popular with motoring enthusiasts on a budget. ‘Budget’ implies cheap, of course, and while £7000 is sufficient to secure a good chrome-bumpered car (more desirable than the later rubber-bumper variety), for anything tip-top you’re looking at well over £10,000. Fortunately, it won’t be money wasted since good Midgets are rare and their prices are only going one way. Unfortunately, it means dodgy sellers are getting on the bus and asking silly money for, at worst, thickly painted rubbish and, at best, bitsa-cars assembled from Midgets of all ages. In fact, we found one. It’s a late 1960s car that looks fre
Police officers shot a pantless knife-wielding man who set his SUV on fire in front of Queens precinct stationhouse Sunday, officials said. The man, believed to be in his 30s, crashed his SUV into a marked police car outside the 111th Precinct on 215th St. and Northern Blvd. in Bayside around 3 p.m. He then exited his SUV and sprayed an “accelerant fluid” on the NYPD vehicle and then on his own car, NYPD Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison told reporters Sunday. The man then set his own car ablaze. The NYPD vehicle was not burned in the incident. When precinct officers confronted him, he waved a 12-inch kitchen knife and charged at them, Harrison said. Henrik Fisker, who designed famously sensual cars for Aston Martin and BMW before his eponymous start-up blew up, has said he’ll have a $40,000 electric SUV built by 2021. That’s less than a year later than Elon Musk has promised his freshly unveiled Model Y will hit the road. That announcement last week came as a surprise. A year ago, Fisker announced plans to produce an expensive electric sports car, the EMotion, instead. But in a phone interview, Fisker said he’s evolved since 2012, when he released the now discontinued $100,000 Fisker Karma (and its warmed-over corpse, the Karma Revero). After an initial 2008 debut and prolonged hiatus until production started in 2011, the lugubrious hybrid-electric sedan received middling reviews (famously breaking down during Consumer Reports testi
I do most of my driving around town, but occasionally am on the highway heading to cottage country. I’m interested in a wagon – I find most of today’s SUVs too boxy. I don’t need a lot of extras or upgrades. Initially, I have only three criteria. The car must have AWD, minimum 175 horsepower and cost a maximum of $50,000 all in, including taxes. What can you recommend? – RichardRichardson: Do you think Richard is a salesperson for Subaru? We get this sometimes, when the question is so specific that there’s really only one vehicle that fits the bill. Gentile: He’s ruling out most of the options by not wanting an SUV. Don’t get me wrong – I like wagons. They’re practical. But there aren’t many wagons left these days. Richardson: Except the Subaru Outback, which is exactly what he’s ask
Imagine if you could go fishing in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, or build your own skyscraper from the Bolte Bridge? While both scenarios sound completely proposterous, they could soon become a (virtual) reality as Mercedes-Benz looks to turn the car of the future into mobile game consoles. The German car maker has announced a competition for developers to create in-car video games as it moves closer to introducing fully-autonomous vehicles that can drive themselves, which will, in turn, allow occupants to participate in other activities such as working, watching movies and, potentially, play Fortnite. The In-Car Gaming Challenge is open to gamers, developers, interaction designers and students - either as individuals or start-ups with up to five participants - with Mercedes-Benz encouraging...

Buying your first car is a right of passage and it appears Australians have a lot of shared experiences. A new survey by Gumtree Cars has revealed the most popular first car choices for Australians. Not surprisingly the Toyota Corolla is the most popular vehicle for first time buyers. The Japanese hatch has been the best selling new passenger car for many years and is known for its solid reliability. The Corolla was Gumtree Car ambassador Grant Denyer’s first vehicle purchase, too. The car isn’t the most exciting ride for a gear-head like Denyer but it is dependable and affordable for the first-timer.“Turns out, I completely fell in love with my Corolla. It was the perfect first car,” says Denyer. “I bought it when I was starting my racing career, and it was my best buddy. I towed this
